Rules
VERSION 2026.09.1 · IN FORCE FROM 14 September 2026
Reports and appeals are now sent through the forms on the website, signed in through Steam, instead of through Discord. Nothing else changed.
How these rules work
These rules apply on every Scrap Racket server and in the Scrap Racket Discord.
Rust is a game about taking things from other people. Raiding, killing and out-playing someone are the game, and nobody is punished for them. The rules cover what is not the game.
Moderators apply the rules with judgement. Something harmful the wording did not foresee is still dealt with, and a ban names the rule it was issued under.
Respect and inclusivity
Scrap Racket is for everyone, whoever they are and wherever they are from. That is a rule, not a slogan.
Zero tolerance for hate speech and slurs based on sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or disability. It goes straight to a ban, with no warning first.
- No harassment of LGBTQ+ players, and no mocking anyone for who they are.
- No racism, including "jokes", coded words and slurs spelled creatively.
- No chauvinism or nationalist hate: no abusing players for their country or their language, no glorifying aggression against another nation, and no pro-war hate symbols or propaganda, including the Z and V symbols used to promote the invasion of Ukraine.
This applies in text and voice chat, player names, clan and team tags, signs, paintings and banners, and the Discord.
Speaking your own language is fine. Being abused for it is not.
Cheating, scripts and macros
- No cheats of any kind: aimbots, ESP, radar, injectors, or anything that reads or changes the game.
- No recoil scripts, macros or automated input, whether they run as software or live in a mouse or keyboard.
- No playing alongside someone you know is cheating. Benefiting from it is treated as taking part.
Cheating can go straight to a permanent ban. If you are not sure whether a tool is allowed, ask before using it rather than after.
Exploits and bug abuse
Using a bug for an advantage is not allowed: getting inside rocks or terrain, glitching through walls, duplicating items, or reaching places the game does not mean you to reach.
Found one? Tell support. Reporting a bug is never held against you. Using it is.
Ban evasion and other accounts
A ban applies to the person, not the account.
- Playing on another account while banned is ban evasion. The new account is banned too, and the original ban can become permanent.
- Using a second account to get round a team limit, a mute or a contract counts the same.
- You are responsible for what happens on your account, including when someone else was playing it.
Teams and team limits
Every server page states its team limit. Where it says Any, groups of any size can play together.
Where a server has a limit, it counts everyone who plays as one group over the wipe, not only who is in the in-game team at a given moment:
- Alliances, truces and shared bases between groups that together go over the limit count as going over it.
- Rotating players in and out to stay under the number counts the same.
Raiding, building and griefing
Raiding is the game. So are offline raids, being killed at your door and losing everything on the way home. Moderators do not step in on fair play and do not return items lost to other players.
Not allowed:
- Blocking a monument, a road or a public area so that other players cannot use it.
- Building meant to lag the server, or placing things with no purpose except filling the map.
- Signs, paintings, banners or builds with hateful or sexual content.
- Taking it beyond the game: killing the same player again and again is Rust; following it with abuse in chat, voice or on signs, or pursuing them outside the game, is harassment.
Trading and scams
The Scrap Exchange sells server offers only. It does not broker trades between players, and no Scrap Racket system does. A vending machine is the safe way to trade with someone you do not trust.
- Staff do not settle trade disputes inside the game, and items lost in a trade that went wrong are not returned.
- Trading in-game items, bases or accounts for real money is not allowed.
- Scamming anyone for money, Steam items, skins or accounts is not allowed, in the game or in the Discord.
Scrap cannot be had for real money anywhere on this network. Anyone offering it is not Scrap Racket.
Chat, voice and toxicity
Trash talk about the game is fine. Abuse aimed at the person is not.
- No threats, including ones presented as a joke.
- No spamming chat, and no drowning out voice with music or a soundboard.
- No sexual content, and no encouraging anyone to harm themselves.
- No naming suspected cheaters in global chat. Report them instead.
Chat and voice problems usually start with a warning or a mute. Hate speech does not; see Respect and inclusivity.
Advertising
No advertising other servers, Discords, shops, cheats or services, in chat, voice, player names, signs or direct messages sent through the Scrap Racket Discord.
Mentioning your own stream when someone asks is fine. Posting the link again and again is advertising.
Impersonating staff
Do not pretend to be a moderator, an admin or Scrap Racket itself, in the game, in the Discord or anywhere else. That includes names, tags and profile pictures made to look like staff, and claiming to enforce the rules.
Staff never ask for your Steam password or a login code. Anyone who does is not staff.
Doxxing and real-life threats
Sharing anyone’s personal information, or threatening to, is a permanent ban. That means anything that identifies a person outside the game: their name, address, photos, school or workplace.
The same applies to threats of real-life harm and to attacks on anyone’s connection or on the servers.
Reporting a player
Report a player on the website, signed in through Steam. Give the SteamID64 or exact in-game name, roughly when it happened in UK time, and what you saw. A link to a clip helps.
A report made up to get someone banned is treated as abuse.
You will not be told what happened to another player beyond the public ban records.
Enforcement
Most problems start with a warning. Repeated or more serious ones move up:
- Warning
- Mute
- Temporary ban
- Permanent ban
Some things skip the ladder and go straight to a ban: hate speech and slurs, cheating and scripts, ban evasion, doxxing and real-life threats.
Nobody can pay their way out of a ban, and no membership changes how these rules apply.
Appeals
Think a ban was wrong? Appeal it on the website, signed in through Steam with the account that was banned.
- An appeal is judged against the rules version in force when the ban was issued, and against what the logs show.
- One open appeal per SteamID. A second one does not make the first read sooner.
- A dishonest appeal ends the process and the ban stands. Disagreeing with the ban is fine.
Moderation transparency
Bans appear on the public ban records once the moderation database is in use. Evidence and internal moderation notes are never published.
Every change to these rules is a new version with a date. Older versions are kept, because an appeal is judged against the version that applied at the time.
Money and memberships
Money buys convenience, cosmetics, status and queue priority. It never buys power, and it never buys an exception to these rules.
A member who breaks a rule is dealt with exactly as anyone else would be.
Questions about a rule
Ask in the Discord, where players and staff talk. To report someone who broke a rule, or to appeal a ban, use the forms in support.
