Scrap Racket
GAMEPLAY SYSTEM

Contracts & The Old Bill

Fund a bounty with physical Scrap. Other players and The Old Bill come after the target. Whoever is caught serves a two-minute sentence, then parole.

01

Fund

A contract costs 500 Scrap from your inventory, in game. A fifth is burned as the racket’s fee and 400 becomes the bounty. None of it is ever refunded.

02

Hunt

The whole server is told the bounty and the grid the target was in. The target is Wanted for 45 minutes, and The Old Bill come after them too.

03

Collect

The killing blow pays the bounty, once. The target serves a two-minute sentence and leaves on parole.

How to open it

/srOr click the corner button. /contracts opens the same panel, and /reflect turns a contract on you back onto whoever funded it.

The Exchange, contracts and settings are tabs in one panel. Open it with the corner button or by typing /sr, and turn the button off in the settings tab if you would rather not have it on screen.

The rules, stated plainly

  • A contract costs 500 Scrap: 400 is the bounty and 100 is burned. Nothing is refunded if nobody claims it.
  • The target has to be online, not on your team, not already Wanted, not on parole and not in the holding cell. On yourself, you can — a suicide still never pays.
  • You can have two contracts running at once.
  • A contract runs for 45 minutes. When it expires the Wanted state clears and the Scrap stays gone.
  • Only the killing blow pays, and only once.
  • Nothing pays for a suicide, a kill by the buyer, or a kill by a teammate of the target or of the buyer. The contract still closes.
  • If The Old Bill, an animal or the world gets the target first, nobody is paid and the bounty is burned.
  • While you are Wanted, /reflect costs double the bounty. The contract turns on whoever funded it, the bounty becomes what you paid, and the 45 minutes start again. On your own contract it doubles the bounty.
  • Corpse and loot behaviour is unchanged.
  • A sentence is two minutes. No membership shortens it, and no moderator is involved.

Wanted

The target sees a Wanted card with the bounty and the time left, and the whole server hears the bounty and the grid they were in. Ordinary PvP is unaffected.

The Old Bill

Fictional server enforcement. About 90 seconds after the contract is funded a squad of two arrives, three when the bounty is 1,500 Scrap or more. They appear 55 to 85 metres away, never near a tool cupboard, and give up after five minutes or once you are 220 metres clear. Three minutes later they may come back while the contract runs. It is NPC behaviour, it can fail safely, and it is not moderation.

Holding Facility

A protected zone where a two-minute sentence is served, starting when you respawn. Nothing can be shot into it or out of it, nothing can be built there, and no sleeping bag can be assigned inside it. Your body and everything on it stay where you died — this is a timeout, never somewhere to keep your loot safe. There is a safe-release fallback if the facility cannot be reached.

Parole

For 10 minutes after the contract on you closes, nobody else can fund a new one on you. It grants no PvP immunity.

Never for sale

No membership shortens a sentence, prevents a Wanted status, or buys an early release. There is no paid escape.

The Scrap leaves your inventory immediately and is not refunded if nobody claims the contract. Money cannot buy a contract.
